We had lots of fun in the library trying out different stations for Maths Week. We played games, sorted colours and made patterns.
This week we are starting the Jolly Phonics programme in Junior Infants.
The five basic skills for reading and writing are:
1. Learning the letter sounds
2. Learning letter formation
4. Identifying sounds in words
5. Spelling the tricky words
In Jolly Phonics the 42 main sounds of English are taught, not just
- s, a, t, i, p, n
- c k, e, h, r, m, d
- g, o, u, l, f, b
- ai, j, oa, ie, ee, or
- z, w, ng, v, oo, oo
- y, x, ch, sh, th, th
- qu, ou, oi, ue, er, ar

Letter sound cards will be going home in green homework folders from tomorrow. We are starting with ‘s’. Please practise sound and complete worksheet. Working together is really important as your child begins this next phase in their learning.
