This month’s theme for Aistear is the Health Centre. We’re learning words like stethoscope, patient, pharmacy, prescription, thermometer, x-ray and waiting room. We’re role-playing as doctors, nurses, patients, pharmacists and receptionists.
Our artist of the month is Piet Mondrian. We looked at some of his work and this inspired our own Mondrian paintings. We used the primary colours; red, yellow and blue.
This week we are starting the Jolly Phonics programme in Junior Infants.
The five basic skills for reading and writing are:
1. Learning the letter sounds
2. Learning letter formation
4. Identifying sounds in words
5. Spelling the tricky words
In Jolly Phonics the 42 main sounds of English are taught, not just

Letter sound cards will be going home in green homework folders from tomorrow. We are starting with ‘s’. Please practise sound and complete worksheet. Working together is really important as your child begins this next phase in their learning.
