Good morning all,
Some boys and girls from 3rd and 4th class took part in the Respect Cup futsal competition on 27th September in Corduff Sports Centre. It was our second time participating in this competition, and there was a big improvement in our performance this year.
The day did not get off to a great start, as the boys and girls will remember that the weather was terrible that day, so some of the other schools cancelled on the day. This meant that all of the matches were played on one pitch, which was the indoor hall. Which meant that games were only 5 minutes (instead of 10) and it was only 5-a-side when it was supposed to be 7-a-side! Unfortunately, since we brought a squad of 10 boys and 10 girls, this meant that the children did’t get as much playing time as everyone would have liked.
However, things picked up once the action commenced. The girls did very well to claim one point in a very tough group. They were very unlucky not to score a few more goals, Lara going close on several occasions.
The boys had a much better time. They won one match and drew two, which was a huge improvement on last year’s showing. Alex (in Emily’s class) was the star of the show, grabbing a few goals. The boys also had a couple of goals harshly disallowed in one game, which would have seen them earn a draw.
All the children should be proud of themselves. The standard of football was extremely high, and the winning teams were outstanding. So our boys and girls did very well.
We will hope to participate again next year.
Stephen and Alo.
