As I’m sure you all know by now, this is the centenary anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland, when Irish men and women fought for freedom for Ireland from Great Britain. I’m sure you saw lots about this over the Spring Break, as it was all over the television and the newspapers. There were also a lot of special events happening around the country to make the occasion.
Well just before the break, we had our own very special flag raising ceremony. Primary schools all around the country we given a special Irish flag to mark the centenary. This flag was then to be raised on Tuesday, 15th March, which we did in great style. Each class prepared an Irish song or poem to perform at the ceremony. Parents were also invited to come along and join in the ceremony.
It was a fantastic occasion, and below are some pictures from the day. Well done to all the boys and girls who practiced so hard and performed so well on the day. Well done to all the teachers for putting in such a big effort. And a big ‘thank you’ to all the parents who came along.
